It has become very popular to paint walls with wild accent colors. Similar to having too many different colors of carpet from room to room, this can break up the flow of a house. However, if you have your heart set on a bright “wild card” color there are ways to make it work. In this room we did a bold color, which was the client’s favorite, on all of the walls and balanced it out with more clean and neutral colors. The white ceiling and white trim was important as it helped to control the boldness of the aqua green. The neutral colors not only complimented the bright color, but they also helped to create a more calm design. Overall, the design ends up having a comfortable “cocoon effect”.
I make too many design calls where people have realized they made a paint color mistake after the fact. A design consultation of $75 is cheap insurance.
